AFLC Home Missions Knee-mail
Dear Praying Friends,
"When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us." (Luke 2:15,NASB)
What an exciting time on the church calendar to be able to announce the Advent of Christ's first coming and to recognize that His second coming is imminent. Friends, have you ever considered what a privilege we have of living in the day and time we do? What a blessing to have the Scriptures to hold and read, the songs to sing, and the opportunities to pause and reflect and understand the great gift of salvation given to us. We who know Jesus have been blessed far more than we deserve or can comprehend or explain.
I have exciting news to share with you in this Knee-Mail of how some of our Home Missions churches are using what would be considered a difficult situation, to bring the gospel message of Jesus' birth into the world. Please read carefully and prayerfully over these requests. God is doing some amazing things and we trust that you will see how He is working in our midst.
Calvary Free Lutheran - Mesa, AZ - We are thankful for our work crew and their efforts to complete the secondary building on their campus. It is being utilized to teach people English in a biblical setting. We are grateful for Georg & Barbi Marsteller as they lead these classes - it is going well and we praise the Lord for the opportunity He's given them. During their Harvest Party, the congregation reached over 300 people and some of those folks are starting to ask more questions about Christ. We are praying for Parish Builders to serve with them. We are also praying for God to supply more Spanish speaking people to help in their ministry.
Good Shepherd Lutheran - Camarillo, CA - They are having Christmas at the barn! They had requested to rent many different locations for their Christmas Eve service, but were told that there was "no room in the inn." They are hoping to reach 250-400 people on Christmas Eve by having 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. services out at a barn. They have sent out over 1,500 invitations and are praying for God to break through and that people would come to the barn to hear about Jesus. We're thankful that GSLC will be beginning a "Soul Break" radio program from 12:30-12:45 p.m. on a Christian radio station, KDAR - 98.3FM, hopefully in the first part of January. We're asking that you pray that this program will reach many for Christ and thatthe funding would come in to cover the costs. Please continue to pray for our Parish Builders that are serving - Jared Langness, Chad Friestad, and Katie Nelson.
Cornerstone Christian Church - Brandon, FL - They are facing a similar situation of not having a building to meet in for Christmas. The result is that they will be doing "Christmas in the Park." They will have worship and outreach on Christmas weekend. They are praying for many to walk in and join them as they share Christmas music, a message, food, and fellowship. Please pray for Pastor Brian & Margaret and the congregation as they use what could be a closed door, to open doors to bring the Christmas message to their communities in this unique way.
Hope Lutheran Church - Detroit Lakes, MN - Pastor John Abel is serving them and they continue to see amazing things happening in their midst. Please pray for them that the Lord would open doors as He sees fits and that He would be honored.
Immanuel Lutheran Church - Springfield, MO - Please be in prayer for them and Pastor Tom Tuura. He has visited the congregation several times and is seeking the Lord as to what He would have them do. We pray that God would provide the shepherd of His choosing for Immanuel.
Faith Lutheran Church - Bertrand, NE - Pray for Pastor Glenn & Karol Frecks - that the Lord would give them direction concerning their future.
Ebenezer Free Lutheran - Humboldt, TN - We continue to ask that that Lord would give them opportunities to break into the community to share the message of Christ. They continue to be served by laymen, and we pray that the church would continue to grow.
Living Word Free Lutheran - Sioux Falls, SD - They recently had groundbreaking and are asking for prayer. Please pray that during the building project, there would be safety for the workers and that their vision and mindset would not just be on the building, but also on their outreach. Please pray for Pastor Wade & Michele as they have many things to deal with - may God give them wisdom!
Good Shepherd Free Lutheran - Madison, SD - Lay pastor Bill & Linda Buck are working with Brent Raan. We thank the Lord for Pastor Steve Mundfrom and his leadership and for Calvary in Arlington, SD for sharing their pastor. We pray that God would lead them as they seek wisdom as they look at property and building possibilities.
Living Word Lutheran - Menasha, WI - Please pray for Pastor Duane & Joan Matz as they serve there. They have had some setbacks and we are asking that the Lord would undergird and encourage them, and that many would come to join their congregation.
Faith Lutheran Church - Mineral Point, WI - We are thankful that Sharon and the rest of the family have joined Pastor Tom Olson these past two days as he finishes his treatment. Pastor Tom has used his time here in so many valuable ways and we're thankful for God allowing him to speak. He probably won't be speaking this Sunday, but hopefully he can again for Christmas. Continue to pray for his wellbeing and that God would do a special work in that community.
Christ the King Lutheran - Wilson, WI - They are asking for prayer. Please pray that God would raise up a core of prayer warriors that would seek Him in regular, intentional and corporate prayer until He pours forth His blessing and revival in a special way upon the congregation.
Lutheran Church of Hope - Loveland, CO - Please pray for the young people there in the congregation and that the youth group would grow, that the outreach would continue in the community, and that they'd see many come to Jesus.
Christ Community Church - Hagerstown, MD - We're thankful to announce that they have received word that Pastor Rich Carr from Minneapolis will be joining their staff in January to serve alongside Pastor Mark Benz as their pastor. God has been doing some marvelous things! He's provided a home for them to move into right away and has been answering many, many other prayers. Please pray for Pastor Mark & Debbie Benz - they just returned from providing a Thanksgiving retreat in Germany for our service men and their families. God honored and blessed that work, they have many more opportunities to share with chaplains throughout the world, and we ask that you continue to pray that they would have wisdom and strength as they serve.
Faith Lutheran Church - Durant, OK - We pray that God would give Pastor Craig & Sherri Scavo increase and that this Christmas season would be at time of growth. Also, pray for protection for their son Tony as he serves in the Armed Services in the Middle East.
New Hope Free Lutheran - Snohomish, WA - Please pray for Pastor Roy as he serves there and that the congregation would be able to share the light of Christ with their community.
Our Redeemer Free Lutheran - Superior, WI - Pastor Jerome & Elaine Elness are asking for special prayer for their daughter, Dr. Elenn' Elness. She is serving with World Missions Prayer League at the TANK CHRISTIAN HOSPITAL in Tank, Pakistan. They have designated today, December 7, as a day of fasting and prayer for the Tank Christian Hospital, their staff, needs, security, and ministry.
Builders Fellowship - We're thankful for the work projects that have been done this past year. We've had inquiries from other churches looking for help and we're praying that God will bring many volunteers to serve these churches.
Inquiry Groups - Brainerd, MN; Felch, MI; & Spearfish, SD - we pray that the Lord will bless those works.
Let's continue to pray for Jeff & Jane Swanson as they share and care for the folks up in Alaska. We pray that they would have a special Christmas this year as they adjust to their new surroundings.
Please continue to pray for Pastor Ollie & Pat Olson as they serve us as support staff. We pray that God would give them good health and would protect them in the days ahead.
Please continue to pray for Kristen and Lavon as they serve so faithfully in the office.
Please pray that as we plan for Summer Teams and Parish Builder training, that the Lord would bless and use our efforts to bring many to Him.
We are excited for the Gospel Team concerts on Friday night and for the choir concerts that will be given this weekend on the school campus. Pray for those that are traveling. We thank God for our Bible school and seminary.
My brother Keith is home from the hospital. He will continue to come down to the Minneapolis area for treatments, but we are hoping that he will get his chest tube out and will continue to see progress in his battle against cancer. Thank you for your prayers!
We thank all of you for your support. Please continue to pray that the financial needs of 2007 would be met and that the Lord would be honored by all that we do.
Thanks for your faithful prayers - may God bless you in a special way this weekend!
Sincerely in Him,
