AFLC Home Missions Knee-Mail

Dear Praying Friends:

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord" (Isaiah 55:8).

We are preparing for our Home Missions Retreat and Board meeting and are seeing some spiritual warfare as we prepare. The Lord must have something special that He wants to do during our Retreat as we see the warfare heating up and the physical temps plummeting just in time to head to the ARC. We are writing to ask for your prayers for a number of situations.

Pastor Tom Olson asks for prayer for Doug Niesen, an active layman from Cloquet who has served in Naknek, AK as a lay pastor: "Doug's cancer is worse than expected. He has lymphoma in his lymph glands, chest, arm pits, legs and groin and will immediately be put on massive chemo. Both Doug and Jan are in good spirits and trusting the Lord. There is a good chance that the chemo will be effective but Doug is ready to be with Jesus in heaven too."

Pastor Brian Pearson of Brandon, Florida is back in South Dakota to visit both of his parents who have cancer. He was just notified that his father's condition has worsened (His father is in Grand Forks at this time). He also asks for our prayers for some difficult family situations.

Dick Hanson's wife Vonnie (from Faith Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN) is struggling right now. She is having a lot of pain with her arthritis and we ask you to uphold her in your prayers.

Please continue in prayer for Pastor Tom Olson and the congregation at Mineral Point. We visited them on Wednesday and they are facing some very important issues. Please pray for the Lord to guide in these decisions.

Please pray for the new radio broadcast, which has started at Camarillo California. Jim Johnson's 15 minute message "Soul Break" is heard every day on KDAR 98.3 FM. Our Parish Builders, Chad Friestad, Jared Langness and LizLackey are in need of prayer for their financial needs.

Calvary Free Lutheran of Mesa, AZ is praising the Lord for the completion of their new Youth Room. They are asking for prayer as they begin a new session of English Classes for the community with Dr. Georg and Barbie Marstellar as instructors. Continue to pray for a Spanish speaking Parish Builder for their congregation.

Our Parish Builder Brent Raan of Madison, South Dakota requests your prayers for a youth event entitled "Saturday Nights Alive". This will be held Feb 9 there in Madison. The Worship team from AFLBS will be coming down to lead them in worship. They have the old armory rented out and Brent's boss, Rex Roger will be doing the Bible Study. He is really excited for this event but knows that this event really needs to be coated in prayer! Good Shepherd Free Lutheran is also going to be sending 14 people to the ARC for Side x Side and Snowdaze.

In February, Bill & Linda Buck are setting out for Florida to help with the work at Cornerstone Christian Church in Brandon, FL. Please pray for their travels and for open doors in the days ahead.

We have experienced God's moving in our midst here on the campus during this Inter-Term. Continue to pray that our AFLBS students will respond to God's calling concerning God's will for their lives, and even Summer Team ministries.

Pray for the decisions our Home Mission Board must make on Monday. Pray for our Home Mission Pastors Retreat, our speakers, Mark Benz, Ollie Olson and Al Monson, and a special time of refreshing and encouragement for our pastors.

Please pray for the AFLC Pastor's Conference which will be at the ARC next week as well. How can we tell? The temperatures are falling - are we surprised?!?

Praise!!

Board member Loren Tungseth reports on Sharon's medical report from Mayo: "Thanks for your prayers. We got the news and the Doctor said everything looks good. We had an appointment for an ultra sound today but there was nothing that needed further checking so we came home last night."

Pastor Craig Scavo reports that his wife Sherri is home from the hospital and on the road to recovery. They thank you for your prayers on their behalf.

In Christ,

AFLC Home Missions Knee-Mail

Dear Praying Friends,

"The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." (James 5:16)

I have just a few prayer requests that I'd like to send your way.

Please pray for Sharon Tungseth (wife of Loren Tungseth from the Home Missions Committee). She will be going to the Mayo Clinic tomorrow for more tests. Please pray for wisdom for the doctors and for strength and peace for the Tungseth family.

The Home Missions Committee will be meeting this Monday, January 21 for a Board meeting. There are many important decisions to be made and we pray that God will guide us and show us His will in all things.

The Home Missions Pastors and Leadership Retreat will be at the ARC this Monday night, Jan. 21 - Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 22. Please pray for all the speakers - that God will speak through them in a powerful way. We pray that God will give safe travels to all coming, and that this will be a time of encouragement and refreshing for all that attend.

Remember to keep Sherri Scavo in your prayers as she recovers from her heart surgery.

Thanks again for praying - may you have a blessed weekend!

In Him,

Paul Nash

AFLC Home Missions Knee-mail

Dear Praying Friends,

"I will say to the LORD, 'My refuge and my fortress,my God, in whom I
trust!'" (Psalm 91:2, NASB)

I would like to give a special thanks to all of you that prayed for Sherri. The verse above is one that Pastor Craig, Sherri, and I looked at early yesterday morning before she went into surgery. We have a God who goes before us in all the things that we face. Sherri had open heart surgery yesterday and had a valve replaced. We received some very good news from her doctor that the surgery went better than he expected, and by the end of the day she was standing and walking around - isn't that marvelous? God is so good! Many of you have already emailed me asking for the hospital that Sherri is at. She is at SouthCrest Hospital, 8801 South 101st East Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74133, and her phone number at the hospital is
(918) 294-4000.

Dave Mattson joined me for the trip this past weekend, and we returned last night. It is now Inter-term for the students on campus. The emphasis this week is on Missions and Pastor Dick Gunderson will be speaking each night. Please pray that the Lord would anoint him and that many of our students would begin to understand what God's plan may be for their lives, would have the courage to step into that plan, and allow God to use them in a mighty way.

We're grateful for the funds that Home Missions has received that allowed us to meet our 2007 budget. Thank you for praying! Thank you for sharing! Thank you for caring!

I would like to give a special thanks to our faithful WMF women for their generous support. Last evening and today, the WMF had special meetings for our Seminarian wives and Bible School girls. They are trying to encourage our AFLC women - continue to pray for them and the work they are doing.

We're getting more inquiries from other areas of the country asking about the AFLC and desiring to start a new church. Although this is great news,it also creates a challenge because many of these people feel that all they need to do is put up a sign that says "AFLC" and be able to operate within our parameters. The reason I share this with you is that it's not quite that simple. We need people that have the same Biblical convictions as us,and this is where we get great opportunities to train and teach. Please pray that we would be able to share the Word, would be clear and precise, and that people would understand our emphasis on the Christian walk
being one that is consistent daily.

This upcoming weekend I will be at Living Word in Sioux Falls, SD in the morning and at Good Shepherd in Madison, SD in the afternoon for their Annual Meeting.

Continue to keep Pastor Rich & Brenda Carr in your prayers as they take the journey out to Maryland to serve at Christ Community in Hagerstown, MD. They're on the road right now and we pray that God will give them good weather along the way.

Please continue to pray for the Home Missions Committee and the many decisions they have to make. We are hoping to have a Conference Call some time next week. The following week we have a Home Missions Committee meeting, followed by our Home Missions Pastor's Retreat. Please pray for those that will be speaking - Pastor Al Monson, Pastor Ollie Olson, and Pastor Mark Benz.

Continue to be in prayer for Pastor Tom Olson from Faith Lutheran Church in Mineral Point, WI as he recovers from his cancer treatment. Also, remember Roberta Foster as she goes through cancer treatments now.

Thank you for your prayers for all of us at the Headquarters office. May God grant you a special day in the Lord.

In Him,

Paul Nash, Director

December 21, 2007

Dear Praying Friends,

"But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you
good news of great joy which will be for all the people.'" (Luke 2:10,
NASB)

Have you ever thought about how the message of Christ is for ALL people - red, yellow, black, and white. It is for everybody - everybody needs the message of Jesus Christ. Friends, do you realize that the most evangelistic season is Christmas? However, this is also one of the loneliest times for people who are all alone or away from family. This is a wonderful time to extend Christian hospitality, love, grace, and peace on earth by encouraging, helping, listening, and caring for those that seem alone.

AFLC family, please bring Jesus into the lives of people this Christmas. We're so thankful for all of you who live as shining lights in our dark world. We thank you for your prayers and support. This Christmas, may we all share the greatest message ever - Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, they are weak, but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so.

Calvary Free Lutheran - Mesa, AZ
They continue to see new people at church because of the Spanish language classes that are being offered. They had a wonderful Christmas program and God is doing a special work. Please pray for Pastor Al & Connie, and for Georg & Barbi Marsteller as they minister to these folks in a powerful way. Particularly, pray for more snowbirds to come down and help them in their ministry.

Good Shepherd Lutheran - Camarillo, CA
I just got a call from Grace Hauptman, the church secretary, saying that they've had such a wonderful response to their Christmas Eve service at the barn that they have to add another service time. Isn't that great news? At first, they had no place to meet so they decided to go to the barn, and now they have to add more services - God is so good! We pray that our AFLC churches will extend themselves to make a difference and share the Word in such a way that many would come to Christ. Please pray for Pastor Jim & Linda Johnson, Chad Friestad, and Jared Langness as they faithfully serve there. We recently met with a young lady that is being considered as a Parish Builder - please pray for her as we work out the details.

Cornerstone Christian Church - Brandon, FL
Pastor Brian & Margaret Pearson were just up here to spend time with his mother and father. Please pray for his parents as they struggle with health concerns. Also, uphold the congregation in prayer as they hold Christmas services in the park. We pray that God will open doors and bless their efforts.

Hope Lutheran - Detroit Lakes, MN
Pastor John & Ruby Abel continue to serve there and we are thankful for that. Soon, they will be going down to Brazil, so the pulpit will be empty, but we pray that God's work will continue to go forward.

Immanuel Lutheran - Springfield, MO
They were spared from all the ice and we're so thankful for that. We pray that God will lead them as they consider calling a pastor, and that the congregation will flourish and be united so God can work.

Faith Lutheran Church - Bertrand, NE
Continue to pray for Pastor Glenn Frecks' health and eyes. We pray that God will lead them as they pray about their future plans.

Ebenezer Free Lutheran - Humboldt, TN
Pray that God will bless their Christmas services and outreach.

Living Word Free Lutheran - Sioux Falls, SD
Please be in prayer for Pastor Wade & Michele Mobley as their building project starts. They have many new opportunities to share and we pray that God will be truly honored and glorified in this new project.

Good Shepherd Free Lutheran - Madison, SD
I flew over there with one of our seminarians this past week as they looked at a possible building to meet in. They are asking the Lord for direction as to whether or not they should use this as a temporary building or 'jump out of the boat' and take on a full building project. Please be in prayer for the congregation, Pastor Steve Mundfrom, Pastor Bill & Linda Buck, and Brent Raan as they faithfully serve in so many different ways. We pray that God will give unity and harmony to the congregation as they continue serving the Lord.

Living Word Lutheran - Menasha, WI
Continue to pray for Pastor Duane & Joan Matz. We pray that God will give them extra grace and strength this Christmas season.

Faith Lutheran Church - Mineral Point, WI
We're thankful for Pastor Tom Olson's progress with his cancer treatment. Please be in prayer for the Home Missions Committee as we deal with some issues in that congregation - our prayer is that the Lord will lead us,guide us, and give us direction.

Christ the King Lutheran - Wilson, WI
Please pray for Pastor Les Johnson and his family. We pray that God will give their congregation incredible unity and harmony as they seek to move ahead.

Lutheran Church of Hope - Loveland, CO

Pastor Larry Haagenson has his 2 daughters, Hanna and Bethany, working with the youth group and we pray that God would use them in a powerful way.

Christ Community Church - Hagerstown, MD
Their Christmas gift came a little early this year - Pastor Rich Carr accepted the call to serve as their pastor. He will be moving out there with his family the first part of January. We're so excited about this and pray that the Lord will be with the Carr's as they move their family. Pastor Mark will continue to serve there, and we pray that the Lord will continue to do powerful things through him.

Faith Lutheran Church - Durant, OK
Please pray for Pastor Craig & Sherri Scavo. She's going to have surgery the first part of the year and we pray that the Lord will be with her and give her a quick recovery. Also, pray for protection for their son Tony as he serves in the Middle East in the Armed Services.

New Hope Free Lutheran - Snohomish, WA
Please pray for Pastor Roy Warwick, his ministry, and that there would be growth in their congregation.

Our Redeemer Free Lutheran - Superior, WI
Please pray for Pastor Jerome Elness as he serves, and that God would bless their outreach..

Inquiry Groups
We have different groups in Brainerd, MN; Felch, MI; Western South Dakota; and recently Hasting, MN. We're praying that God will lead and guide us for these new works.

Naknek, Alaska
Please pray for Jeff & Jane Swanson as they continue to adjust to their new ministry. Their family will be joining them for Christmas and we're thankful for that. This will be a different Christmas for them and we pray that God would bless their ministry as so many things are taking place in the Alaska regions.

FYI - We have different Builders Fellowship work projects coming up.
If you are interesting in volunteering for any of those, please contact
Lavon Bohling in our office - Phone: (763) 412-2052 or email: flaps@aflc.org.

Laurie and I will be with my father this Sunday as he celebrates his 80th birthday. Then we'll be with the Dietsche family. The following weekend we'll be flying out to Washington to be part of the wedding party for Cal Willard & Lori Crowell. Please pray for them during this exciting time. Lori will be joining Cal as he serves at the parish in Roseau, MN.

Please pray for our finances as we come to the end of the year. We're looking to the Lord to meet our needs and ask that you would pray for them as well.

We are so grateful for all of your prayers and support. It's such an honor and privilege to serve within our AFLC family. May God richly bless you this Christmas season.

I love the phrase, "Wise men still seek Him." Oh, may we put our focus on Jesus alone.
